Compass Box – This is not a luxury whisky
53,1% ABV
79% 19 yo Glen Ord (first fill Sherry butt)
10,1% Strathclyde 40yo (grain whisky, ex-Bourbon hogshead)
6,9% Girvan 40 yo (grain whisky, ex-Bourbon hogshead)

Nose : very perfumed with Sherry notes, cereals, hot chocolate caramel, butter, apricot pie, blackcurrant, orange zest, sugar, juniper berry, vanilla, little smoke, forest moss / earth / moldy wood.
Palate : in the first place rather raw, strong and astringeant with spices (pepper and nutmeg), dry earth and bitter wood. It then becomes sweeter with lemongrass, molasses, licorice and dry marzipan.
Final : rather long with barley and herbs, melting butter, salty cold ashes, honey, caramel and citrus fruits.
Comments : is this a luxury whisky ? Yes, definitely. But SO well made. Anyway, this is a very good whisky, rich, powerful, dry yet aromatic. A lot of flavours for an intense tasting that evolves a great deal ! A sweet mix of herbs, wood, caramel and dried fruits… I very much enjoy the “compass box” which indicates all the ingredients with such transparency. I REALLY want to try other bottlings from this surprising independant bottler.
