Big Peat Christmas Edition 2014 – Cask Strength (55.7%abv) – Not available in SAQ or LCBO.
An annual release by IB Douglas Lang. Blend of Islay distilleries, including Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen.
Color: White wine
Nose : Smoked meat, ham, brine and salt. Some medicinal note with burnt rubber. Beautiful nose, I feel like I’m on Islay enjoying ribs with a full pork roasting over a fire beside me and waves breaking on the rocky shore.
Palate : Iodine. Mouth coating and oily. Again, very meaty. I love it! Caramel Propcorn. Cigar ash tray, like Montecristo or something like that. Really smooth for the ABV, almost no alcohol burn.
Finish : Medium length. Sweet and salty with a little fresh cracked pepper. Ashes, smoke and barbecued melons, more like honeydew.
Comment : I really enjoyed this! But a better/longer finish would’ve made it an astonishingly delicious dram. I eould drink this whenever I want to feel like I’m spending a fall evening on an islay beach! Also… Gotta love the meat!
