Connemara, or Chonamara in Irish, is a whiskey brand possess by Kilbeggan Distillery. The Connemara are the only peated Irish whiskeys and is a shootout to past time where Irish did dry their malt on a peat carpet.

This version of their Original is at 43% instead of 40%. Except that, it is the exact same juice.

Color : canary yellow.
Nose : intense peat, but balanced by fresh pears and vanilla pods. At once very powerful and balanced.
Palate : fresh and refreshing at first, the peat is expressed quietly and rising in power, but remaining very reasonable. We still have the pear, this time in the form of pie, and we add caramel fudge, vanilla ice cream and strangely notes of vegetables.
Final : slow, long, peaty, but still light!
Comments : very honest, rather good even! I like the contrast between peat and fresh notes. I’m not sure there are many differences between this Distillers Edition and the regular 40% version. I buy however: peat expressed differently, at a reasonable price!

About The Author

I never liked vodka&orange or vodka&cranberry while going out in the Montreal Clubs. I was always drinking whisky&ginger ale or whisky&coke. At some point, I just let go of the liquors and started drinking whisky neat... I hated the taste but damn was I a badass in front of my friends ! Eventually, I stopped being a douche and started enjoying finer drams. Today, I’m making it my mission to taste every whisky and to know everything there is to know about spirits, wine and beer !
