Redbreast Lustau (46%abv) 85$ in SAQ, 90$ at the LCBO.

Latest (2016) addition to the Redbreast’s Core Range, the Lustau was created using a combination of ex-bourbon casks and sherry casks, married and finished for a full year in first-fill, world renowned Lustau Bodega sherry casks. All and all, the whisky is said to be between 9 and 12 years old. Being a Pure Pot Still, this whiskey is distilled using both malted and unmalted barley.

Colour : Yellow Gold
Nose : typical Pot Still nose and similar to other Redbreast expressions, with hints of dusty sherry, candied orange and boilled red fruits.
Palate : light and creamy, sweet sherry, a little astringent at first with dry tannins and dry oak flavors. Good thing this is 46% but a couple more degrees would make it much better!
Finish : dry finish with warm spices, including cloves. Short to medium length.
Comments : it’s a good daily dram that delivers great flavors but lacking a bit of texture  Great value for the price and a good introduction to the Irish whiskey world. Any Scotch fanatics will enjoy it.
