This particular edition from Lagavulin was made to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the distillery, back in 2016. At the time, it was a limited release, but has since been added to the core line due to its popularity !
.
Color : peach chair.
Nose : smoked fish on the BBQ, peat, charcoal. Very slight touch of spices with curry 🤔
Palate : the flavours of the nose are repeated, less the curry. Light notes of caramel, vanilla and maple sugar can then be felt. The texture is less oily than one would expect from a 48% Scotch.
Final : rather short and strong in peat and smoke. A long after taste is however felt in the middle of the esophagus.
Comments : less balanced than the 16 yo, less complex than the Distiller’s Edition, this bottling is however a pleasure for the taste buds. The flavours are powerful and recall the classic 16 yo, flagship edition in the world of peated Scotchs.
In short, a very bold move for Lagavulin : offering an edition with an age statement, a young one moreover, and at a reasonable price…and all that for their 200th anniversary celebration !

I never liked vodka&orange or vodka&cranberry while going out in the Montreal Clubs. I was always drinking whisky&ginger ale or whisky&coke. At some point, I just let go of the liquors and started drinking whisky neat... I hated the taste but damn was I a badass in front of my friends ! Eventually, I stopped being a douche and started enjoying finer drams. Today, I’m making it my mission to taste every whisky and to know everything there is to know about spirits, wine and beer !
