Partagas Presidentes

If there is one famous cigar factory in Havana, the name is Partagas. You can find it at No. 520 Industria Street, located behind the Capitol building, in the heart of the city. The factory was opened in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas and it has been making the cigars that namesake his name ever since.

A Partagas is immediately recognisable by its deep, earthy flavour. The character of its blend springs from a selection of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and chosen for their unmistakable richness of flavour and aroma. Not a well known Partagas but it compares to the Cuabas brand.

Appearance

Old school in appearance this wonderful hand made Partagas has a nice look to it, the Presidentes shape is unique and a conversation piece. Some of the dimension are a bit odd but the look definitely catches the eye. Mild in color and silky to the touch with moderate veins. The Partagas band stands out with its red and gold look and figurado shape. A nice look for a figurado size. The end can be a bit small in lighting the cigar. The weight and feel is light.

Smoking Notes

This Partagas like many Partagas is full in flavor and has a long finish, the construction  is well built. Don’t be fooled by it’s shape it has a lot of power and body to it. Holding one of these cigars is elegant. The taste is similar to the 8-9-8 Partagas or the Lusitanias. The look is very classy.

Before the light up

You get a nice warm chocolate smell, earthy and spice when inhaling this close to your nose at the foot.

Draw and Burn

The Draw was great, no resistance. If lit correctly this baby will burn through out the entire process due to its perfect construction. The draw on this is smooth, exuding nice amounts of smoke but not a crazy amount. The burn is not to hot, you can hold this cigar pretty close to your fingers.

Beginning

In the beginning you get a sweet spice that is typical with this brand along with some milk chocolate, vegatal notes as pepper, hay, coffee beans and cedar wood. There is a nice aftertaste and a tingling feeling on the tongue.

Middle

Not overwhelming in the notes department the leather is present. The flavors are similar and they are getting a bit stronger showcasing what is yet to come. The taste is wonderful,  most of the chocolate and cocoa, cedar and spice stay.

Final

Nearing its final chapter you get hit with strong notes of pepper hay, chocolate and cedar but the profile stays the same.A well balanced cigar that is powerful and delivers great flavor. It is more for the serious veteran smoker as they will appreciate the complexity of the cigar. Some might want a bigger ring gauge but , but the thiness is just fine. I really enjoyed this cigar along with its shape and complexity, it was a real pleasure and one i will return to in the near future.
