Glengyle distillery. The group Springbank re-launched this old distillery of Campbeltown in 2004. The whisky is called Kilkerran rather than Glengyle, who is already the name of a blended malt of the Highlands – and also because this name (glen) is more often associated with Speyside than with Campbeltown. After some acclaimed releases called “work in progress”, the 12 years old is now the bold statement of this distillery. In 2017, the 8yo cask strength batch 1 was born! All the products are non chill filtered and not artificialy colored. Surprising fact, the distillation work is only 6 weeks a year.

Nose : fresh and vibrant with aromatic herbs, lemon/lime/green acid apple, malted barley, vanilla, fine and delicate farmy peat (hay) with a little smoke in the background.
Palate : So oily, sweet, intense and mineral ! Fisherman friends, candy, caramel, almond paste, cream, pepper, butter, vanilla, earthy/grassy, salted sea rocks…
Finish : honey, liquorice, oak, lemon and some dry earth flavors..
Comments : imho another terrific campbeltown single malt ! A mix of fruits, malt, earth, aromatic herbs, vanilla and creamy notes ! Definitely a punchy and young whisky with great flavors that i really enjoyed, BTW the %ABV is perfectly intégristes here in this batch ! A perfect (who is rude but who could also be refined) little sister of the great kilkerran 12yo…
