This is the second review of John’s Lane by a member of TWF. To compare with the 1st one, here it is !

.

Power’s was created in 1791 in Dublin by James Powers, at his public house. After almost a century of dominating the Irish whiskey industry, Powers began to bottle their own whiskey instead of selling it in bonds to merchants (1886). Powers was deemed to be one of the most beautiful, innovative and ”clean’ distillery in the world.

Powers is one of the few Irish distilleries to have never closes, in part due to its innovation and the fact that did embrace change when it was coming their way (stopped selling in bonds, installing a Coffey still, etc).

Fun fact : their Gold Label is the first Irish whiskey to be bottled !

.
Color : yellow bee.
Nose : fresh pear, vanilla, tobacco and leather.
Palate : thick texture that goes with raw flavors. Leather, tobacco, rare medium steak, Dijon mustard … A mouth for meat lovers!
Final : short, explosive, with a persistent aftertaste of strong mustard.
Comments : it is fleshy, it is raw, it is strong … it is excellent! It reminds me a lot of old Mortlach, but for a fraction of the price! Whiskey as we do more!

About The Author

I never liked vodka&orange or vodka&cranberry while going out in the Montreal Clubs. I was always drinking whisky&ginger ale or whisky&coke. At some point, I just let go of the liquors and started drinking whisky neat... I hated the taste but damn was I a badass in front of my friends ! Eventually, I stopped being a douche and started enjoying finer drams. Today, I’m making it my mission to taste every whisky and to know everything there is to know about spirits, wine and beer !
